Railway sleeper dimensions
All dimensions are approx.e.g. an 8' 6" railway sleeper may vary in length, by an inch or so. In addition, some old railway sleepers were not cut
perfectly square, which makes them hard to measure. Allow some leaway in your precise calculations !

Railway sleepers are often treated in different ways, and it's not always possible to know precisely what an
old railway sleeper was originally treated with. See railway sleeper treatments for further details

Delivery Area
We can't deliver all our selection of sleepers to all areas due to haulage costs. We do have storage depots in different places to
lessen the costs, however not all our depots stock our total range, which can limit our customer's selection.
That's why some sleepers are only available for collection or delivery near Nottingham. Sorry !..

Different Grades & condition of railway sleepers
1st grade
Best condition. Generally squarer, straighter, few cracks.
2nd grade
Generally good. Possibly some rounded edges, some cracks in the ends, sometimes slightly bowed along the length.
3rd grade
Most likely to be irregular, weathered, battered, cracked, damaged, some decay, bowed etc....
... but not necessarily all at the same time ! Despite all this, they may last for ages.
Reject grade
Lowest grade, pretty poor. A motley mixture of odds and sods that are only available for selection or collection in the flesh, to avoid disappointment or shock !
