Dear Kilgraney,
Here are some pictures of the railway sleeper vegetable beds we constructed
for my mother. It took two of us about one & a half days. The work was
quite tiring (not used to digging !) & involved mainly soil removal &
moving & levelling of the railway sleepers, rather than the actual cutting
and fixing which was relatively quick and simple.
USEFUL TOOLS:
Spirit level (Crucial); Lump hammer (for those minor adjustments); Cordless
drill (to screw the Timberlok in); Chainsaw (or circular saw); Spade (narrower
the better)
PRODUCTS:
28 no. 2.6m x 250mm x 125mm
new pine railway sleepers
2 no. 3m x 250mm x 75mm new pine railway sleepers
Timberlok screws (8" & 6")
The Deacon family
A wonderful collection of pictures & information. A great example of multi-shaped
raised beds that reduce bending down, & can be easily heightened as age
progresses. |
