LOCAL DELIVERIES in the East Midlands Area
For local loads of up to 2.5 tonnes (about 32 pine sleepers or 20 hardwood sleepers) we use a 4 wheel drive vehicle & trailer which which should be able to access most roads & backed onto most drives. If no help is available, the driver will hand offload the sleepers onto a space directly next to the trailer (within 6 ft). Help will be required with large, heavier numbers. We cannot carry things further than that (i.e. into the back garden). Occasionally at drivers discretion, if we're not in a hurry, and offered a strong pair of hands, we may agree to carry the sleepers a very short distance.

You must ensure in advance that there is access space for the trailer to offload. It is crucial to tell us, when you order, whether there are any delivery problems - e.g. a narrow road, cul de sac, cars parked in front of the property etc...
Deliveries are usually Monday - Friday, between 9am - 4pm.

DELIVERIES to 80% of the UK (That generally excludes the more remote (and more beautiful) places such as Cornwall, parts of Wales and North of England, Scotland etc..) We CAN deliver sleepers to these areas with Palletline. See below
Our delivery system works like this: We use several transport companies. Each day they are told where our deliveries need to go, and they then group them according to destination. They inform us which day the delivery will be the day before (at which point we inform you). (That's why we can't arrange a specific delivery day in advance). Your order is normally delivered on a non-artic rigid lorry with a hiab crane. Your materials can be placed on your drive, property or pavement, so long as there is space for the crane to operate without lifting over vehicles etc..

DELIVERIES to almost 100% of the UK (With the possible exceptions of some islands and boggy bits)
Palletline is a way of transporting goods (on pallets or bearers) across the UK. The advantages of the Palletline system are that we can agree a particular delivery day with you in advance (unlike our normal 7 - 14 day deliveries) and deliver within 3 - 4 working days. You MUST be present for the delivery. Palletline will NOT transport creosoted sleepers

The best option is for the sleepers to be offloaded with a forklift or equivalent. If you can't do this, you MUST have at least 2 strong people to hand offload. The reason for this is because although the lorry driver can sometimes place the sleepers onto the pavement or road using the lorry tail lift and hand palletruck (and from then on, it's up to you !), on other occasions he can't if the load is particularly heavy or large, and you will have to hand offload the sleepers (hence the 2 or more strong'ish people)

How to work out the delivery charge
The delivery charge is based on:
1) Your postcode
2) How many pallet spaces the sleepers take up. A pallet space is 1.2m long. Hence, a 2.4m railway sleeper takes up 2 pallet spaces, and a 2.6m or 3m railway sleeper takes up 3 pallet spaces.
3) The total number of pallets.. You can get (very approx average) up to 30 pine sleepers, or 20 hardwood sleepers on a pallet. Hence 40 pine sleepers would be divided on to 2 pallets, and 60 hardwood sleepers would be divided on to 3 pallets.

DELIVERIES to almost 100% of the UK (With the possible exceptions of some islands and boggy bits) with artic and rigid lorries
This is most economic way of buying and delivering large loads of railway sleepers (e.g. 100 - 400) from our Nottingham yard, or one of our national storage yards or sawmills.
You can can normally chose the delivery day that you want. We use several local transport companies.
OPTION ONE: CUSTOMER TO OFFLOAD
Your order is either delivered on a non-artic rigid lorry (approx 10 - 15 tons depending on vehicle) or an artic lorry (approx 24 - 26 tons).
The customer is responsible for offloading the lorry with forklift etc..
OPTION TWO: SELF OFFLOADING LORRY WITH HIAB CRANE OR EQUIVALENT
A more expensive option.
Your order is either delivered on a rigid hiab-crane lorry (10 tons max) or an artic crane lorry (approx 22 - 24 tons).
Your sleepers can be crane-offloaded so long as there is space for the crane to operate without lifting over vehicles etc..You must ensure in advance that there is access space for the lorry to operate.
It is crucial to tell us, when you order, whether there are any delivery problems - e.g. a narrow road, cul de sac, cars parked etc..
Deliveries are usually Monday - Friday, between 9am - 4pm.

DELIVERIES WORLDWIDE
All responsibilty for arranging international haulage, shipping, ordering & filling containers, customs & paperwork etc.. lies with the customer.
Deliveries to the European mainland are often arranged with Artic lorry.
Deliveries to the rest of the world will normally be shipped by Container.
We can arrange delivery of sleepers to any UK destination or port. Alternatively customers can arrange collection from the central yard in Nottingham. Your order will be loaded by forklift. We do not load / stuff containers (with the exception of one of our European yards).

DELIVERIES TO OUTER SPACE
All responsibilty for arranging intergalactic haulage, ordering & filling cargo spacecraft, and international space federation permits etc.. lies with the customer. Destination site to offload.
Deliveries to our own solar system can often be arranged with the European Space Agency
Deliveries to the rest of the universe will normally be shipped with the International Space Federation.
We can arrange delivery of sleepers to most launch pad sites. Alternatively customers can arrange collection from our headquarters in the UK. Your order will be loaded by forklift.
We do not load / stuff cargo spacecraft (with the exception of our Houston branch).
